Restoring Childhood — The Anti-Child Labour Initiative

Lawshrine Trust undertakes a definitive stand against child labour, an illegal practice that robs children of their dignity, health, and future. We believe that every child belongs in a classroom, not a workplace, and that the “shrine of justice” must extend its protection to the most vulnerable members of our society.

The Crisis: Beyond the Workplace

Child labour in India is a complex violation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act. It is not just about work; it is about the deprivation of childhood.

Magnitude: Recent estimates suggest that between 1.8 and 3.3 million children in India remain engaged in various forms of labour.

Hazardous Exposure: Adolescents (ages 14–18) are often illegally employed in hazardous industries like mining, brick kilns, and chemical units, facing permanent physical and mental damage.

The Educational Gap: Lack of access to quality schooling forces children into a cycle of poverty and exploitation, where they are used as a source of cheap, unregulated labour.

Lawshrine Trust’s Strategic Approach

We address child labour not as a single issue, but as a socio-legal challenge that requires a multi-pronged solution:

Legal Advocacy & Enforcement: We work to ensure that existing laws are strictly enforced, providing legal guidance to help report violations to authorities and pursuing justice for rescued children under the Juvenile Justice Act.

Rescue and Rehabilitation: Our initiative focuses on removing children from harmful environments and transitioning them into “Bridge Schools” and vocational training programs to mainstream them back into formal education.

Family Empowerment: We recognize that poverty is a root cause. Our trust counsels families and helps them access government social welfare schemes and alternative livelihood opportunities to eliminate the financial dependency on a child’s income.

Community Vigilance: We build “Child-Friendly Communities” where locals are trained to spot and report child labour at its source—in farms, small-scale factories, and domestic settings.

Action Steps for a Brighter Future

Observe and Report: If you see a child working in a commercial establishment or in hazardous conditions, call the Childline India helpline (1098) or report it to the nearest police station.

Support Education: Help Lawshrine Trust sponsor school kits, uniforms, and scholarships for children rescued from forced labour.

Educate Your Network: Share our campaign materials to help break the social acceptance of child labour in your neighborhood.

Lawshrine Trust Commitment: A child’s hands are meant to hold books and toys, not tools. Join us in breaking the chains of child labour and restoring the right to a safe, happy childhood.
